Mending Matters
A Workshop Series, 2022
In the practical sense, mending is the action of repairing (either by sewing, felting, patching or darning) a used item of clothing to prolong its life or restore it to a usable state. Mending can conceptually refer to making amends, or healing relationships that have undergone hardship. Considering the challenges of the last few years, these mending workshops will explore the themes of care, sustainability, embodied learning, and collaboration through material engagement and conversation. Over the course of 12 weeks, we will explore a multidisciplinary approach to mending techniques, such as weaving fibres, sewing patches, repairing ceramics, as well as restorative forest walks, and collaborative artworks. Participants are welcome to drop-in to any or all workshops, depending on their interests. Meet-ups will take place weekly between July-September in the neighbourhood of Pointe-Saint Charles, always starting and ending at Batiment 7 (1900 rue le Ber). Each session will be led by artists and educators mea bissett and selina latour. Most materials will be provided, and some will be sourced along the way.

Hand-knit wool sweater, 2018
Lopapeysa is a traditional icelandic sweater, knit from local wool. We knit this lopapeysa together, and through movement gave expression to the moments of support and struggle in our collaboration.
Special thanks to the knitting group and café bjarmanes for giving us the skills to knit and an environment to do it in.
